As energy prices skyrocketed last year, for a government-set average consumption a price-capped tariff was set. For above average usage of these utilities, a much higher tariff is used, which can significantly increase the monthly expenses of households.
Although after two years of continuous increase, energy prices in Hungary started to decrease, for residents of stately houses or families with multiple children - a.k.a above average consumers - household energy prices have risen the most in recent years.
The prices of household energy in Hungary rose by 41.8% overall (59.4% for piped gas, 54.4% for firewood and 27.3% for electricity). It makes electricity twice, natural gas seven times more expensive than price-capped tariffs.

As a tenant the eligibility for price-capped energy tariffs depends on whether the owner officially declared utility meters to the renter's name.
